General HR Questions

Essential HR questions asked in every interview — self-introduction, strengths and weaknesses, career goals, and how to answer them effectively.

1

Tell me about yourself.

Framework

Use the Present-Past-Future format: What you're doing NOW → What you DID before (relevant experience) → What you WANT to do (why this role). Keep it 60-90 seconds.

Sample Answer

"I'm a final-year CS student specializing in Machine Learning. I've built projects in NLP and computer vision, including a RAG-based chatbot that won our college hackathon. I interned at [Company] where I improved their recommendation pipeline by 15%. I'm excited about this role because it combines my passion for AI with real-world impact at scale."

💡 Memory Trick: "Present → Past → Future. Max 90 seconds. End with WHY THIS COMPANY."

2

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Framework

Strengths: Pick 2-3 relevant to the role + back with evidence. Weakness: Pick a REAL weakness (not disguised strength) + show how you're actively improving it.

Do's and Don'ts

  • ✅ "I tend to over-engineer solutions. I now set time-boxes for prototyping."
  • ❌ "I'm a perfectionist" (cliché, sounds fake)
  • ✅ "My strength is breaking complex problems into smaller parts"
  • ❌ "I work too hard" (not a real weakness)

💡 Memory Trick: "Strength = relevant + evidence | Weakness = real + improving"

3

Why do you want to work at our company?

Framework

Show genuine research: Mention specific products/projects/values + connect to YOUR goals. Avoid generic flattery.

Key Points to Research

  • Recent company news, product launches, or research papers
  • Engineering blog posts or tech stack decisions
  • Company culture, values, growth trajectory
  • How your skills specifically help their current challenges

💡 Memory Trick: "Why them + Why you = Why together. Be specific, not generic."

Questions 4-30 continue with the same detailed format.

Topics covered: Where do you see yourself in 5 years, Salary expectations, Why should we hire you, Why are you leaving current company, Gaps in resume, Relocation questions, Remote work preferences, and handling rejection gracefully.
